Houston Texas (KTRK) — A woman who was brutally beaten in her own apartment, was able to get her baby back thanks to a neighbor who found her and called police. It was the kind of violence that makes people want to hide. “I felt like I was going to die,” said the 28-year-old victim. “I was in the fetal position, thinking maybe I was dead. I didn’t think I would get out of the house alive.” It happened on November 23 in the Cypress Lake Apartments. The Houston police report said, “The victim suffered a facial laceration requiring five stitches, and a swollen eye.” A woman, who was in the home with her baby at the time, found the victim and called police. “He had bruises on his face,” she told ABC13, “It looked like his face was swollen, bruised all over. And he had a bump on his head.” The neighbor called police to report the victim. The police report says the woman who found her, reported that she and her four children were in their apartment when the man came in. The man walked over to the kitchen, grabbed the victim’s baby, and threw him across the room. The report said, “The victim said, ‘don’t hurt him.'” The baby hit the other wall. The neighbor then ran out of the apartment and called police. She said it was a terrifying experience. The report said, “When she found the victim, she could tell the victim was really in bad shape.” The Houston Police Department said the suspect was arrested at the scene. They booked him into the Harris County Jail. He was charged with felony assault of a family member. But the charges were later dropped.A spokesperson from HPD said, “The case was reviewed and the decision was made to accept a joint recommendation for a dismissal.” He told ABC13 that he didn’t know how long he had been living with the victim. He said they were in a good place in their relationship. He told ABC13 that he wanted to give an apology to the victim. “I just want to tell the victim, ‘I’m sorry,'” he said. “And I know that I have a lot to prove, but I can tell her that I’m sorry.”
